Sick Baby, Still NO Answers

We had a long week here. Graham finished his antibiotics (that he's basically been on non-stop in some form or other since October!) Saturday. By Monday, he was sick again. Thick, gooey, snot. Cough, fever, just generally acting not well. Same old cycle- this is what's been happening most of his little life.

Meanwhile, we've been tested for a TON of things this week. Some very big immune deficiencies, the cilia movement syndrome disorder and cystic fibrosis. The easiest tests were simple blood draws out of Graham's arms. He doesn't even cry for this anymore, not needles, nothing. However, the cystic fibrosis test was anything but easy. It was Wednesday. A "sweat test." So this means they put little electrodes on my baby's arms- first his right, the his left, and shocked each arm for 5 minutes. Absolutely awful. But PRAISE GOD the test for that, and all the others we did this week, came back perfectly normal.

So all we have left is the cyclical neutropenia test. This is a three times weekly blood draw for three weeks to check white counts. To chart them over time. TO see how the change or don't. Those with cyclical neutropenia will have a dip every 21 days where their counts go very low and therfore they can't fight infections, making for sickly patients....

Otherwise, one blood test came back showing that Graham has some allergies. SO, we go see an allergist Tuesday.

I'm trying not to get down. But it's very hard when your baby is sick ALL THE TIME. And not just a drippy nose, if he was just a snotty kid then we'd live with it. He's miserable. He cries and cries and cries. He is limp and lethargic and not in a happy mood.

We do have some comfort in the fact that he's having all these work ups and so far they are are all normal. It's hard not to assume something else is going on when your baby is so sick all the time. But we could use one breakthrough, something that could make our buddy feel better.

And, as usual, I'm putting all my hope on the NEXT new specialist. This time, we meet the Pediatric Allergist Tuesday. I'm already praying he can help us. Sigh.
